There’s a lot more to a holiday at Eagles Palace than the fabulous food and romantic accommodation. We are right on the beach at Ouranoupolis in Halkidiki so swimming and suntanning are a given. But, if you want to do something a bit more adventurous, you will be spoiled for choice. You can rent a kayak, sailboat, SUP board, pedalo or sailboard to explore independently, or you can join an escorted tour. And, if you are feeling particularly adventurous, you can zip around behind a power boat on your choice of towable toy.
To make your aquatic dreams come true, chat to the helpful and experienced staff at our water sports centre. All our equipment is regularly inspected and serviced, and we offer all safety equipment, such as personal floatation devices. Fun is our number two priority – just behind safety, which is our number one.
Water skiing was ‘invented’ in the Roaring 1920s – the glamorous era of flappers and fabulous cocktails – when the adventurous young American, Ralph Samuelson, decided that, if you could ski on snow, you could ski on water. His first few experiments were amusing, to say the least, but the activity soon grew into a glamorous pastime. It’s a great combination of waterborne sightseeing, adrenaline-filled exercise and showing off. It’s almost as entertaining for the spectators as it is for the participants. So, while you’re here, why not give this now slightly retro, but still glamorous (and definitely still fun) activity a try?
The only reason that water skiing is considered a bit retro is that it’s been slightly eclipsed by wakeboarding – in much the same way that snowboarding has replaced snow skiing as the most glamorous activity on the slopes. So, if you want to be way up-to-the-minute, and you’re not into retro, wakeboarding is your game. Our skilled water sports centre staff can get you up on your feet in no time at all. And then it’s up to you to see how long you can stay upright.
If you want all the fun and adrenaline of water skiing or wakeboarding, but you can’t be bothered with learning how to get up on your feet, then Ringo is for you. All you have to do is hold on tight while you get towed around at high speed – jumping waves and doing some tight twists and turns if you want to. Or just taking it a bit slower and steadier if you are a bit nervous. It’s wet, it’s wild, and it’s a lot of fun.
How’s this for weird and wacky concept – a three-seater couch towed behind a speedboat? It’s perfect for couples or small families, as you can snuggle up together, or hold your little one safely, and still enjoy an exhilarating ride. It looks elegant, but don’t be fooled – you cannot drink a cup of tea on this couch! You will not be able to keep the smile off your face.
If you – literally – know the ropes, you can rent a sailboat and explore the beautiful bays and beaches, and perhaps drop anchor in a secluded cove for a swim, a picnic or a romantic interlude. Or get your heart-rate up – enjoy a long, fast reach with the sea-spray in your face as the beautiful coastline goes past in a blur. We can also arrange for an instructor to accompany you, if needed.
Supping is a relatively new and fast-growing sport that has taken the world by storm over the past decade. It’s also a new and slightly weird word. SUP is an acronym for Stand-Up-Paddling, and it has rapidly become a verb – hence supping. Supping is not hard to master, as the boards are very stable, but it is quite hard work, so you will probably get a good abs workout. It’s an awesome way to explore, as you have a much better view than you would from a kayak.
Our mega-SUP is just like a normal SUP but so much more sociable. It can take up to six people, so it’s perfect for exploring with family and/or friends. It is also great yoga platforms. Some people do yoga on standard SUPs, but that’s a bit challenging. The Mega SUP is perfect, though. Can you think of anything more relaxing than doing your regular yoga session on a stable Mega SUP in a calm, quiet, secluded cove?
Pedalo boats offer a totally relaxing, chilled but fun aqua outing. These super-stable watercraft are pedalled (like a bicycle) so your hands are totally free. These are a great way to get to some lovely little coves, where you can play all day. There’s even an attached slide that kids find irresistible – and adults so, too. It’s so much more fun than diving in for a swim.
Our safe, comfortable, stable sit-on-top sea kayaks are the most efficient way to explore the scenic bays and coastline. You can cover more distance with less effort paddling a kayak than any other human-powered water craft. It’s no coincidence that kayaks have been the craft of choice for water-borne exploration for thousands of years.
If you’re into sightseeing, but not really into exercise, rent a motorboat, and explore the beautiful Ammouliani and Drenia islands, with their awe-inspiring landscapes, sandy beaches and hidden coves. This is perfect for families, couples and small groups of friends. Just the best way to find the perfect beach to laze away part of the day.
Our guided sea kayaking trips are suitable for experienced paddlers, as well as absolute beginners. We take in the beautiful rock formations and vibrant wildlife of the nearby Drenia Islands, and we usually stop for a swim in a lovely secluded cove. If you're lucky you may even see some smiling dolphins swimming past.
